An Agile Working Checklist for Your Office

Agile working spaces are becoming a common feature in the corporate world. No longer are workers content to stay tied to a single desk for eight hours a day. They demand working environments with greater flow and adaptability. What’s more, they tend to respond to these with increased productivity and decreased absenteeism. So, what do you need to create an agile workspace? Here’s a checklist to help you answer that question.

  • Get Rid of Unnecessary Office Furniture
Start by moving out your unnecessary, traditional office furniture. You’ll find that a good portion of it can go. You may even be able to downsize your floor space and save on rent.

  • Cloud Services and Completely Mobile IT:
Forget about desktops, base everything in the Cloud and issue laptops, tablets, and handsets to your staff. Since staff will be constantly on the move, fixed workstations will be redundant.

  • Video Communication Provisions:
Nothing makes your team less agile than fixed meeting locations and travel commitments. Set up screens for the use of Skype, FaceTime, and other apps. Your finance department will thank you in the long run.

  • Fast Connectivity:
Rapid, high-quality internet connection is no longer negotiable. It’s essential to your operations. Set up Ethernet if you have to. But a better option is good WiFi, keeping in mind the mobility factor.

  • Demountable Pods:
Instead of fixed workstations, opt for demountable pods which can be set up and struck down and moved in a short time and still provide relative quiet and privacy when the staff needs it.

  • Soft Seating:
Out with the old-fashioned office chairs! And in with the couches! There is nothing wrong with your staff being comfortable and relaxed while they work. In fact, they will reward you for providing that comfort.

  • Benches:
Teams will always need to come together to discuss and work collaboratively. Set up long benches in a relaxed, “desk-like” space to give them what they need.

  • Café Seating:
Provide a place for breaks and small meetings. Set it up in such a way that it doesn’t too closely resemble the formal break room of old.

  • Conference Furniture:
You need meeting areas that will impress clients and be welcoming to staff, while it still forms part of your overall agile and adaptable set-up.
